Drug/Narcotic Violation — Rachel Lopez, 29, of McKenzie, was arrested on January 4. Sgt. Scott stopped a vehicle for a light law violation. While speaking to the driver, he could smell the odor of marijuana from the vehicle. A search was performed and two grinders, two pipes, a tray, rolling papers, and 3 grams of marijuana was located inside the passenger’s purse which was Rachel Lopez.

In the late 1960s and into the early 1980s, the Nashville Sound began to evolve into a much smoother and richer sound. The twangy classic sound was still popular on some fronts but to keep up with the growth of rock n’ roll, rhythm and blues, and ever-changing pop sound the Nashville Sound gave birth to what many country music historians or enthusiasts refer to as Countrypolitan.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 6.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.65/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 15.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 31.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 5.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.90 per gallon.

After months of discussion and debate, the Henry County Commission and the Henry County Medical Center’s board of trustees have given their blessing to move forward with the sale of the Henry County Healthcare Center. Since the property is held by the hospital, the county’s private act of 1953, which created the hospital, has to be amended and accepted by both houses of the Tennessee Legislature and the governor.

HUNTINGDON (January 4) — United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon as part of her 95 counties tour. Senator Blackburn’s stop in Carroll County was at the manufacturing plant of Dynamix Casting Fluxes. Local government officials with employees of the plant met with the senator.

HUNTINGDON (January 2) — The Grand Jury of the Carroll County Circuit Court were busy on the first business day of the new year. Among the indictments were 46 who were charged by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in Operation Broken Windows that involved the law enforcement departments of Huntingdon, McKenzie, Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Task Force. A Nashville judge ruled Tuesday that the expenses related to harassment of a 19-year-old legislative intern by then-state lawmaker Scotty Campbell are exempt from the public records law based on a House rule and a policy on workplace harassment. Journalists have found that at least $8,800 was spent to house and move the intern, but it’s unclear if additional payments were made.
