Carroll County Library Summer Readers Enjoy Fun-Filled Finale
From the Jul 22, 2025 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (July 17) — The Carroll County Library hosted its Summer Reading Finale Thursday, with a variety of activities throughout the library for more than 40 kids in attendance.
There was a photo booth, a scavenger hunt and several art stations. Outside, readers of all ages left colorful handprints (and a few tiny footprints) on the benches.
Kids received "book bucks" for their reading efforts over the summer and had the chance to win more in the "color walk". They spent their bucks at the prize table, which had dozens of goodies to choose from.
There were also drawings for bigger prizes such as art kits and tickets to Discovery Park.
Top readers in several categories were recognized and presented prizes.
Reading the most books were Colton Sellers (250), Landry Kendall (150) and Kenadie Sanders (135).
Leading the way in time spent reading by children were Grace Vincent (138 hours), Cheyenne Overpeck (126 hours) and Amelia Godwin (120 hours).
Top adult readers were Carol Hawkins (272 hours), Amy Rangnow (208 hours), Denise Coleman (151.5 hours) and Patsy Crockett (94 hours).
Children's librarian Grace Hawkins also recognized the Nance family for attending the most Summer Reading events.
According to Hawkins, in all, 135 people participated in Summer Reading. They read 1,588 books over 2,413.5 hours.
Later in the day, Closet by Cachengo distributed free backpacks at the library.
Though the finale marked the official end of Summer Reading, there will be an epilogue Thursday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. as Smokey Bear visits the library. Smokey was scheduled to appear earlier this month but was unable.
