Carroll County Fire Department Names Three Battalion Chiefs
From the Oct 28, 2025 e-EditionCARROLL COUNTY (October 20) — The Carroll County Fire Department continues to grow and enhance its county-wide operations under Fire Chief Jonathan Gaskins. In a new initiative, the fire department created and named three Battalion Chief positions to enhance leadership, coordination and training across the county.
“The creation of these battalion chief roles is an important step in improving coordination and communication across stations,” said Lana Suite, chairperson of the Rural Fire Committee. “This structure is designed to support our volunteer firefighters in the field by making it easier to share resources, training and leadership during critical moments of response.”
Philip Moore, from Station 19 (Westport), is Battalion Chief 606. With 38 years of fire service experience under his belt, Moore will serve the East and Southwest Battalion (Station 4 Clarksburg, Station 19 Westport and Station 3 Buena Vista).
Alan Woodall, from Station 17 (Terry), is Battalion Chief 607. Woodall has 34 years of fire service experience and will serve the West and Southwest Battalion (Station 21 Atwood, Station 11 McLemoresville, Station 17 Terry, Station 16 Trezevant and Station 5 Cedar Grove).
Curt Taylor, from County Station 1 (Huntingdon), is Battalion Chief 608. Taylor brings 27 years of experience in Fire and Rescue services and will serve the North and Central Battalion (County Station 1 Huntingdon, Station 10 Macedonia, Station 8 Mixie, Station 2 Vale and Station 15 Hollow Rock).
These positions are volunteer roles and come with important responsibilities, including overseeing designated sections of Carroll County, providing leadership and support on emergency scenes, and coordinating multi-department training exercises. This structure allows for larger, more efficient training events and joint response scenarios involving multiple fire departments.
“Our goal is to continue building a strong and unified county-wide fire service,” said Chief Gaskins. “These Battalion Chiefs bring decades of experience and leadership that will help strengthen response efforts, improve communication, and ensure our firefighters have the guidance and support they need on every call. This is another positive step forward for Carroll County and the citizens we serve.”
The Carroll County Fire Department asks the community to join them in congratulating and thanking Moore, Woodall and Taylor for their dedication, leadership and continued service to the Carroll County community.
