Local Talent on Display at ‘An Evening with Carroll Arts’

McKENZIE (June 21) — Carroll Arts, Inc., hosted its annual showcase, “An Evening with Carroll Arts”, Saturday night at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The event featured visual art and musical performances by talented Carroll County residents and natives.
Musical performers included Rob Harris, Renee Harris Allen, Sophie Cole, Anna Moore, Aydin Neely, Veronica Davis, Jessica Tucker, Steve Bomar, Steve Morris and Mike Wilson.
Visual artists on display included Missy McDonald, Anna Moore, Brittany Martin, Glynda Rich, Fran Musser, Mike Wilson, Allison Cummings, Alene Ball, Denise Coleman, Jason Cole, Ella May Wyatt, Ella Roffey and Letha Roffey.
The featured speaker for the event was Sarah Edwards Waldrop, a McKenzie High School graduate currently serving as Director of Advocacy through the Arts and Registered Drama Therapist at Friends Life Community in Nashville. She received her BFA in Theatre Education from Belmont University and her Masters of Arts in Drama Therapy from Kansas State.
She spoke about her work with the disabled and giving them a voice and a place to be themselves. She credited her experience in Carroll County with cultivating in her a love for the Arts.
Waldrop has been an active supporter of the Arts from a young age, participating in theater productions and programs in McKenzie schools, at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center and with Carroll Arts.
Following her presentation, Waldrop was awarded the annual Friend of the Arts Award by Carroll Arts members Glynda Rich and Denise Sam, both retired educators who witnessed Waldrop’s growth and talent over the years.
Carroll Arts President Brittany Martin served as emcee for the event. She extended thanks to Marlene Kreuter for providing refreshments, Howard Spires for providing sound, the church and Brother Rob Harris for the venue, McKenzie High School for the use of easels, all of the artists and performers and attendees.
A donation was made by the organization to the church in honor of Spires.
