Huntingdon High School
Baseball Field Named After Coach Eubanks
From the Sep 23, 2025 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (September 17) — Huntingdon Baseball Coach Alan Eubanks was honored Wednesday night. The Huntingdon High School baseball field now bears the name Eubanks Field following the unanimous vote by the Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education.
Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools, recommended the name change to honor Eubanks and his successful 22 years as the skipper of the school’s Huntingdon Mustangs baseball team.
His record:
16 district championships
7 regional championships
9 state appearances
3 state runner-up trophies
16 players who also played collegiate ball
1 pro player
Dr. Kee said Eubanks dedicates many hours to maintaining the field and coaching the young athletes. Kee also said Eubanks is not retiring; the naming is to honor his success and commitment.
A formal ceremony will dedicate the naming of the field and the completion of the new combination press box, concession area, and restrooms.
In other business, the Board heard a TISA accountability report concerning student progress for the preceding school year.
The Tennessee Department of Education requires each public school district to report student progress, which includes four goals: - Third-grade reading proficiency, (2) Reading for grades 3-12, (3) Math for grades 3-12, and (4) High School Ready Graduate.
The school continues to increase its target goals, but actual achievement varies from each year’s peer group. Dr. Kee said the school is intentional in its teaching methods and plans to retain the teaching method instead of varying it year-to-year.
The Board approved an additional educational assistance position at Huntingdon Primary School as requested by the HPS administration.
The Board was advised that Homecoming is October 10, and a STEM Fair is November 4.
The school system received a $26,000 public safety grant for the installation of security cameras and additional keyless security entries at doors.
The next meeting is Wednesday, October 8, 5 p.m. at the Board Office, High Street, Huntingdon.
