CARROLL COUNTY (September 23-24) — Two separate head-on collisions occurred on U.S. Highway 70 between Huntingdon and Jackson this week, killing two drivers and injuring three individuals.

On Tuesday, September 23, at approximately 6 a.m., a crash between two vehicles near 13110 U.S. Highway 70 killed drivers Jimmy Wayne Edwards, 74, of Hollow Rock, and Davin Parker, 25, of Jackson.

According to the preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2012 white Nissan Murano, operated by Edwards, traveled westbound when it collided head-on with a 2015 red Dodge Challenger, operated by Parker, traveling down the eastbound lane.

The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane.

The accident halted traffic in the area between Humphrey Road and Ledsinger Road for several hours as emergency response crews investigated the crash.

One day later, just a few miles down the road, three people were injured in a two-car head-on collision at 5:35 p.m.

The preliminary report claims a 2020 Chevy Blazer, driven by Rosa L. Dabbs, 42, traveled eastbound near the Tate School Road intersection when it collided with a 1998 Toyota Camry, driven by Anais Bentiez, 26, traveling westbound. Carmen Rodriguez, 46, was a passenger in Bentiez’s vehicle.

The accident blocked highway traffic for several hours as the three victims were rescued and transported away from the scene.

Multiple rescue teams including Carroll County’s rescue department, fire department and sheriff’s department arrived on the scene. The Carroll County Rescue Squad extricated Dabbs from her vehicle, which came to rest on the side of the highway.

Though no cities are listed, the preliminary report indicates all victims are Tennessee residents. They all wore seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Pending investigation results, Bentiez could receive charges for the accident.

Carroll County residents and friends have responded to the accidents with confusion and prayer, wondering what prompted the two incidents and asking for more safeguarding on the busy highway.
