Langley Attends UTM Governor’s School for the Humanities
From the Aug 19, 2025 e-Edition
MARTIN — The University of Tennessee at Martin hosted its annual Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities (TGSH) June 1-27.
Taking part in this year’s program was Caitlin Langley of McKenzie, a student at the University School of Jackson.
The 50 participating students – all upcoming high school seniors from across the state of Tennessee - lived in the residence halls on campus during TGSH, and each took a college-level course, earning three hours of college credit.
Dr. Jerald Ogg, professor of mass media and strategic communication, has directed the TGSH program since 2001.
The Tennessee Governor’s Schools began in 1985 with a multidisciplinary pilot program under Gov. Lamar Alexander that was funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and held at UT Martin.
The response was so positive that the legislature funded four separate programs across the state the following year, including the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities at UT Martin.
For more information about UT Martin, visit www.utm.edu or call 1-800-829-UTM1 (-8861).
