McKENZIE (August 14) — On Thursday, the McKenzie City Council approved a $72,400 bid for irrigation and sod from Tri-Turf Sod of Paris, Tennessee, for the irrigation and sod work on the Mulberry Soccer Complex. A second bid was placed by Final Touch Sod and Landscaping of Jackson at $85,000. Both bids were of the same specifications with a higher grade Bermuda sod that stays greener longer and is considered more hearty.

McKenzie track standout Abigail Wallace was recognized with a proclamation for state championship runs in May. As a freshman, Wallace placed first in the 800 meter race and 1600 meter race and third overall in the 3200 meter race. This is the first gold medal for McKenzie in track.

The Council approved on the first reading Ordinance 573 concerning revisions to the City of McKenzie’s Zoning Ordinance. According to City Planner Donny Bunton, the revisions are clearing up the language of the ordinances, making them easier to follow and, in certain places, making them less restrictive.

The next meeting of the McKenzie City Council is September 11 at 6 p.m.
