McKenzie Streets to be Resurfaced
From the Sep 16, 2025 e-EditionMcKENZIE (September 11) — During Thursday’s meeting of the McKenzie City Council, paving bids were top of the list. Three companies submitted bids for the paving of Florida Avenue, Florida Court, Manley Street, and a portion of Bell Avenue.
Martin Paving of Medina was awarded the bid with a price of $140.40 per ton. Pavement Restorations, Inc. (PRI) of Martin was the second lowest at $141 per ton. The third bid came from Arrow Paving of Lexington with a cost of $148.50 per ton.
The estimated tonnage for the project is 877 at a cost of $123,165.88. It is believed the paving will commence in October.
In other business, Ordinance 573 was approved on the second reading. This was a general amendment to the Zoning Ordinance, clearing up verbiage and making the ordinances easier to follow and interpret.
During citizens’ input, a representative for Parkwood Enterprises addressed the Council, informing them that the mobile home park located on Forrest Avenue will not be demolished for the construction of townhouses. Now, the property owners would like the area zoned back to R-4 (residential mobile home) from R-3 (high-density residential).
Mayor Griffin stated that the request would have to go before the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission. If recommended for rezoning, then the ordinance can be voted on by the Council.
During department reports, Public Works will begin culvert repair on David Street. The Water Department has set a water meter at the Mulberry Soccer Complex. The Parks Department noted the irrigation and turf have been installed at Mulberry, and TriTurf also helped with other projects with the Parks Department. The Fire Department received 68 calls in August; 40 of which were classified as medical related. The Police Department received 1456 calls and are working to build out its new E Force Software.
Prior to the meeting, the McKenzie Alcohol Board granted new certificates for Type A “Off Premise” permits to Virendra B. Patel, dba: Kriya 01, Inc., 15300 Highland Dr and Virendra B. Patel, dba: Kriya 02, Inc., 528 Magnolia Ave.
The next meeting of the McKenzie City Council is on October 9 at 6 p.m. at McKenzie City Hall.
