Memorial Day Events Set

CARROLL COUNTY — Veterans are invited to a free breakfast at the Downtown Diner, McKenzie on Sunday, May 29, 7 a.m. The American Legion of McKenzie is hosting the event. Please RSVP to the Diner at 731-207-1313 to have an accurate count on attendees. Following the breakfast, veterans and other volunteers will place small American flags on the grave sites of veterans at local cemeteries.
McKenzie Memorial Day event is 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 in the downtown Veterans Memorial Park. Mike Creasy, a former first lieutenant in the Air Force is the featured speaker. Creasy is an attorney and a former county commissioner and a graduate of McKenzie High School. He and wife Kim (Adams) Creasy make their home in McKenzie.
Other participants in the program are: Bill Hollowell, parks director and a former sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, Dana Deem of the American Legion Post 37, Steve Davis of the VFW Post 4939. Melissa Herris and Keith Herris will provide patriotic music. Mayor Jill Holland will provide a welcome message and introduce the speaker.
Everyone is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be available.
Liberty-All United Methodist
HUNTINGDON — Staff Sergeant David Brewer is the guest speaker at Liberty All United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 29, 10:45 a.m. for the annual Memorial Day program. The church is located at 2415 Old Stage Road, Huntingdon.
Brewer has served over 20 years in the Tennessee National Guard and is an Operation Desert Shield/Storm veteran, where he deployed with the 1174th Transportation Company based in Dresden. He currently drills at the Volunteer Training Site in Lavinia.
Patriotic music will be presented by Emily Coleman and Barbara Bennett.
All veterans will be recognized and the names of the 74 veterans buried at Liberty All will be announced and flags placed on their graves. The program will conclude with the playing of Taps. Everyone is invited.
