Mustangs Advance to Title Game with Day Two Win

HUNTINGDON (December 29) — The Huntingdon High School Point Guard Coca-Cola Boys' Christmas Tournament continued Monday with Day Two games throughout the day. In the headliner, the host Mustangs defeated Riverside, 89-56, to advance to Tuesday's championship game.
All eight participating teams played again Tuesday to determine final rankings, from champion to eighth place.
Huntingdon Mustangs 89, Riverside Panthers 56
The Mustangs jumped out to a 25-16 lead after the first frame and pushed it to 50-31 at the half. Huntingdon ran away with a 27-9 advantage in the third and sealed the win with a 12-11 edge in the fourth.
Mustang Kenton Smith led all scorers with 43 points, including five three-pointers. Kelton Johnson scored ten with a three. Jayden Williams and Garvin Kee each had eight points, Williams with a pair of threes. Bryson Whiteside scored four points, and Zayden Connelly, Kylen Turner, William Boals and David Boals each had a pair.
J. Cupples led Riverside with 17 points. C. Brooks and J. England each scored ten, Brooks with a pair of threes. T. Crews had four points. B. Smith, L. Vaughn, S. Lansford and M. Beasley each hit a three-pointer, and A. Lansford also scored three points.
Greenfield Yellowjackets 70, West Carroll War Eagles 31
The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the opening frame, then extended it to 40-17 at the break. Greenfield doubled up the War Eagles 18-9 in the third, then clinched the win with a 12-5 advantage in the fourth.
Yellowjacket Easton Sullivan led all scorers with 14 points, including a three. Baker Biggs and Anthony Green each scored 13. Nick Brown and Caden Sparkman each had eight points. Jace Thomas, Westin Porter and Terrick McMullen each scored four, Thomas with a three. Knox Liggett had a pair.
Mason Taylor led West Carroll with eleven points. Chandler Rimmer scored seven. Bryler O'Neal and Demarion Gilbert each scored five, O'Neal with a three-pointer. Trey Williamson had three points.
USJ Bruins 67, Lake County Falcons 54
The Falcons had a 17-16 edge after the opening frame, but USJ stormed back to take a 36-24 lead at the half. The Bruins pulled away with a 21-10 advantage in the third, and a Lake County rally in the fourth came up short at 20-10.
With the win, USJ advanced to Tuesday's title game.
Bruin Reid Finney led all scorers with 16 points.
Aikee Ward led the Falcons with 14 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
Dyer County Choctaws 85, Gibson County Pioneers 69
The first frame was a 16-16 wash, then the Choctaws pulled ahead, 48-35, at the half. Dyer County pulled away with a 24-10 advantage in the third, and a fourth-quarter rally by the Pioneers came up short at 24-13.
Gibson County's Trajon Eddings led all scorers with 25 points, including seven three-pointers.
Pereon Isom led the Choctaws with 16 points, including a three.
