HUNTINGDON (August 28) — The Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs could never get on track offensively in a 24-8 loss to Milan Thursday to fall to 2-2 for the season.
The Mustangs were held to -14 yards on the ground and fumbled three times in the loss.
The Mustangs managed to complete 4 of 5 passes for 41 yards in the game.
The lone bright spot for the Mustangs came from running back Noah Webb, who scored a touchdown and recovered two Milan fumbles.
Webb got the scoring started for the game as he returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown to give the Mustangs an early lead. Noah Goble converted the two-point conversion to give the Mustangs an 8-0 lead.
Milan answered the Mustang score with a ten-play 75-yard drive to score on a Gray Lockhart two-yard run with 1:37 left in the first quarter. Lockhart also scored on the two-point conversion to tie the score at 8-8.
The Bulldogs would build their lead with 6:09 left in the half after blocking a Mustang punt. A Milan defender scooped up the loose football and returned it 28 yards for the touchdown. Dallas Dudley scored on the conversion and the Bulldogs led 16-8.
The Mustangs reached the Bulldog 13 on their next possession but failed to convert a fourth-down play and the Bulldogs led at the half.
The final points of the night for Milan came after a Huntingdon fumble at the Mustang 19, and the Bulldogs converted the turnover into points when Lockhart scrambled on fourth down and scored on a 23-yard run with 6:20 left in the game. Dudley ran in the conversion and the Bulldogs left with a 24-8 win.
The Mustangs have this week off and will face McKenzie at home on September 11 at Paul Ward Stadium.
