Non-Profit Supports Henry School Children
From the Jul 29, 2025 e-Edition
The passion to help children continues in Henry, Tennessee, through a non-profit organization that bears the name of its late founder.
Alonna Tosh and Morgan Tosh spoke to the McKenzie Rotary Club on Tuesday, July 22 about the work of the area non-profit organization.
Mary’s Kids is based in Henry, Tennessee, and provides Christmas gifts to underprivileged children attending Henry Elementary School.
This organization was started in 1995 by the late Mary Marten. Mary became an orphan at the young age of 5 and remained in an orphanage until her late teens. Her difficult childhood instilled in her a love for children and a heart that wanted to give back.
Mary was twice widowed but was undeterred in her support of the children of her community.
Each year, Mary’s Kids raises money to purchase Christmas gifts for children who are not chosen by other local organizations. Their families are also provided a food box with enough food for a nice Christmas dinner. Children are selected by the Henry School guidance counselor, teachers, and administrators.
Like many schools in the area, Henry School is designated as a Title 1 School, where many students receive free or reduced-cost meals at school due to their parents’ low income.
Each year, approximately 70 children and their families are supported by the organization.
Each year, the volunteers of Mary’s Kids raise about $40,000 through fundraising and grants. They receive support from the community, from area churches, and the Henry Volunteer Fire Department.
