HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (September 5) — The McKenzie High School Rebels made a long road trip for a short game Friday night at Christian County High School. The game was called after the first half due to lightning, but McKenzie had already amassed a 42-12 lead over the Colonels.

The Rebels received the opening kick and scored on the first play from scrimmage, a 65-yard pass from Cole Brown to Kason Brown. Aiden Mason kicked the PAT, and McKenzie led 7-0 in the first minute.

McKenzie's defense set the tone on the Colonels' first drive, forcing a three-and-out. The punt was downed at the Rebel 39.

Timmy Arline got the first touch on the second McKenzie drive, gaining about 14 yards, plus additional yards from a personal foul penalty against Christian County. C. Brown took a keeper into the red zone, and Arline took two tries to punch it in. Mason kicked, and the Rebels led 14-0 with nine minutes to play in the first frame.

The Colonels quickly faced fourth down again in their own territory, but a 63-yard pass got them on the board with seven minutes on the first quarter clock. A fumble on the PAT left the score 14-6.

The Rebels started deep but wasted no time as Cole threw to Kason again for an 85-yard touchdown. The Mason PAT put McKenzie up 21-6 with 6:46 to play in the opening frame.

Christian County moved the ball well on the ensuing drive, but stalled out at the Rebel 29 with an incomplete pass on fourth down.

McKenzie managed a first down, but was forced to punt. The Colonels also moved the sticks once before punting again.

The teams then swapped three-and-outs as the game moved into the second quarter.

The Rebels took over near midfield, but were immediately backed up by a penalty. Arline made a short gain, then went 52 yards to paydirt. Another good kick by Mason put McKenzie up 28-6 early in the second.

The Colonels quickly faced fourth-and-three deep in their own territory and turned the ball over on an incomplete pass.

McKenzie capitalized on the short field quickly, as C. Brown threw to Jacobi Melton for a 28-yard touchdown on the first play. Mason kicked to make it 35-6 with 8:21 to go in the first half.

After another three-and-out and punt by Christian County, the Rebels took over near midfield.

Arline had all the gains in a six-play, 48-yard scoring drive, including a 13-yard touchdown. Mason completed a perfect night with another PAT, and the Rebels led 42-6 with five minutes left in the second quarter.

The Colonels put together a five-play, 80-yard scoring drive, earning two first downs before scoring on a 49-yard pass. Rebel Xander Johnsey blocked the PAT, and McKenzie led 42-12 with a minute to play in the half.

The Rebels ran one play before intermission.
