Steve McDaniel to Speak about Parkers Crossroads Battlefield

McKENZIE — The honorable Steve K. McDaniel, former state legislator and deputy speaker of the Tennessee House of Representative will speak on “A Preservation Story: Saving a Battlefield in Henderson County.
The event is part of the Tennessee Historical Preservation Series, presented locally by the Gordon Browning Museum in downtown McKenzie.
McDaniel speaks at 1 p.m., February 6 in the Browning Room of the museum (masks required and social distancing). McDaniel has spent decades working with area and state volunteers to develop the Parkers’ Crossroads Battlefield. It has exhibits, walking trails, and information boards throughout the park.
McKenzie, Hico and Carroll County played a big role in December 1862 in the Battle between the States. The speech is geared towards preservation of a historical site.
Upcoming speakers are Patrick McIntyre, Executive Director of the Tennessee Historical Commission and McKenzie native J.C. Johnsonius of the Tennessee State Park system.
New hours for the museum are Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m.
Brent Cox is the new curator of the museum following the recent death of his dad, Jere, who served as curator for many years. Brent is a former college history teacher and is a relative of the late Gordon Browning.
The Governor Gordon Browning Museum and Genealogical Library is located in McKenzie Tennessee in the former post office building in downtown. It has a WWI and WWII museum.
