ATWOOD (October 21) — West Carroll Junior Senior High School's annual Boo Bash Tuesday drew a massive turnout. The event featured trunk-or-treat, food trucks, games, activities, a bouncy house, a haunted classroom, a photo booth, a pumpkin contest and a costume contest.

Dr. Adam Douglas, principal, spoke to The Banner about the event. "This is the fifth one that we've done of this magnitude. We're really, really excited. It spotlights all of our student groups, all of our students, a lot of the community members. This is probably the biggest showing of community groups… the health department, churches, small businesses.

"There's a ton of stuff. There's not a lot of facilities that can hold this magnitude of an event. Usually, we see around 1,100 to 1,200, I think this year we're probably close to that, if not more. [This reporter estimates more.]

"A lot of time and effort goes into this. Great community event. A safe event. It can get kind of crazy out there. This just gives our community an out to have fun with their family on a weeknight and enjoy something outside of just sports and academics. It's something fun for them to do.

"On top of that, the food trucks are a big hit. Last year we brought them here. It's just super fun [to have it] all here, you don't have to go get food and come back.

"We're really blessed to be here, really blessed to have this happening for our kids.

"It's grown. This year, I think we had about four or five more groups show up, one of them being our D&D [Dungeons & Dragons] Club. We started that last year to try to reach every kid. We obviously have all the sports teams, but for the students who aren't your sports people, that was really awesome, seeing them out. They're doing a mini D&D game. And the seniors have these fall games. It's just a really, really awesome event, awesome time to be here."

The games Douglas mentioned, along with the photo booth and haunted classroom, were run by seniors and senior parents and raised money for Project Graduation.

The pumpkin contest raised funds for prom, with donations used as votes for the best pumpkin. The winner was senior Hayden Weaver with her pumpkin "Doodle Boo", an homage to iconic SpongeBob character DoodleBob.

Winners in the costume contest were Walker and Weston White, six months and two years old, respectively (Pre-K and under); Emily Roberts, six (Primary and Elementary); and Drake Herndon, 12 (Junior Senior High).
