LEBANON (August 18) — On Monday, members of the West Carroll FFA Chapter participated in several contests at the Tennessee State Fair, gaining hands-on experience and representing the district in multiple categories.
The Livestock Judging team, made up of Ana Murray, Bella Moore, Carson Cooper, and Gunner Martin, took part in their first competition in this category.
In the Forestry contest, Elizabeth Hritz and Joy Bryant applied their knowledge of natural resources and team-based problem solving.
“This was the first time our chapter entered the livestock and grilling competitions, and our students walked away with valuable experience,” said a chapter representative, Noah Rogers. “The state fair is a great way to get students involved in intracurricular learning through FFA right at the beginning of the school year.”
In the Grill Masters event, students Sawyer Jackson, Harlan Hames and Ethan Mueller cooked two sirloin steaks and received strong scores in preparation, palatability and flavor. The competition focused on developing students' understanding of beef cuts and proper cooking techniques, and it was judged on both technical and culinary performance.
Public speaking was another area of participation. Aubrey Hammett, a sophomore, and Dmytriy Berggren, a freshman, delivered speeches and received favorable standings. Hunter Malm placed third in the 6th through 8th grade category.
The West Carroll FFA Chapter continues to offer students a wide range of learning opportunities through leadership, competition and skill-based events across the state.
