HUNTINGDON (October 24) — During a joint meeting of the Carroll County Budget Committee and the Rural Fire Committee, a proposed budget was presented. In the proposal, the 2025-26 FY Budget for the Fire Department would increase to $800,090 from $345,837. A large portion of the increase would come through maintenance ($250,000) and the creation of two requested full-time positions ($99,257).

TENNESSEE (October 28) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 0.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.75/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 0.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 35.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has declined 2.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.54 per gallon- the lowest level in over 1,100 days.

KNOXVILLE — Despite declining national college enrollment trends, the University of Tennessee System (UT System) has experienced five consecutive years of record growth, with a current enrollment of 62,208 students, marking a 18.4% increase since 2020. This growth trajectory positions the UT System to exceed its 2030 goal of 71,000 students across all campuses.

McKENZIE (October 24) — The 11th annual Boo Bash in downtown McKenzie was the biggest ever, according to event sponsors, the City of McKenzie and Bethel University. An estimated 4,000 people attended the annual event that was scheduled for two hours but extended well beyond that time because of the larger than expected number of attendees.
