U.S. Department of Agriculture Commodities
The Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council announced that U.S. Department of Agriculture Commodities will be distributed to eligible residents on October 18 and 19.
The foods will be distributed at the Carroll County Service Center located at 13355 Paris Street, Huntingdon, Tenn., on October 18 and 19 from 8: a.m. to 12 p.m.
Eligibility is based on total household income not in excess of the state — established maximum percentage of the poverty line for the appropriate household size. Also, anyone receiving aid from one of the following programs is eligible for USDA commodities: supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) (formerly known as Food stamps), Families First, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Low income Home Energy Assistance program, or documented residence in public housing.
In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. MES Fall Festival Fundraiser
McKenzie Elementary School PTO is hosting its annual Fall Festival Fundraiser on Saturday, October 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 165 Brooks Avenue, McKenzie. The event features cake walks, games, food, children’s costume contest and the presentation of the Fall Festival king and queen. The event is open to the public with no entry fee. There is a silent auction, full of themed baskets and local business gift certificates and goodies, food and more! The PTO is accepting business monetary donations and items for the silent auction. Prayer On The Square
Please join us for Prayer on the Square. Prayer on the Square is the second Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. and lasts about one hour. The meeting is in the building called The Network located at 109 Court Square, Huntingdon. It is hosted by First Baptist Church of Huntingdon. All religious denominations are welcome. Retired Colonel James Harding is the coordinator of Prayer on the Square. Col. Macedonia Cakewalk
Macedonia Community Center Cakewalk is October 27, 7 p.m. with Crooked Creek Band playing. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. The Center is located at 4680 Hwy 423, McKenzie, Tenn.

Low-Income Energy Assistance Available
The Northwest Tenn. Economic Development Agency is accepting applications for the Low- Income Home Energy Assistance Program. This program assists low-income households through direct energy payments to their energy provider. Proof of gross household income is required to determine eligibility. Applicants must also submit a government id, social security number verification for all household members and a current utility company print-out showing the last 12 months of usage at their current location. Individuals interested in applying for the LIHEAP Program should make an appointment at the Northwest Tenn. Economic Development Agency office in their county of residence.

Funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is provided through the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).

Adult Education Classes
Huntingdon Location - Adult Education Building, 14155 Paris Street. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes are offered for one-on-one instruction on Mondays, 1-4 p.m. and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to NOON. For more information, phone 731-364-5481.

Sunday Night Gospel Singing
Join McLemoresville United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 22 for a Sunday night gospel singing with Ben and Connie Rainey and others. Fellowship and an add-a-dish meal are at 5 p.m., singing starts at 6 p.m. at 1800 College Street, McLemoresville, Tenn.

Ruby Red Christmas Gala

Mark your calendars now for our Ruby Red Christmas Gala to be held on Saturday, December 2 at The Venue at Waddell Place in McKenzie. We will send more info later but wanted you to know the date.

Cat Spay, Neuter Vouchers
We always have vouchers to help with getting cats spayed and neutered. The cost is $50 each and can only be used at the Paris Vet Clinic. There is no limit to how many vouchers you can purchase, no residency or income requirements and we make it easy to obtain. You can call us at 731-352-9950 and leave a message or text and someone will return your call. Purchase by phone using a credit/debit card and we will send you the voucher number. That will save you a trip to our office. We can always issue those in person with cash.

Carroll County Democratic Party Meets
The Carroll County Democratic Party meets the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at 12740 Lexington Street, Huntingdon.

McKenzie City Council Meets Monthly
The McKenzie City Council meets at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month.

Gleason Haunted Barn
The Gleason Haunted Barn opens October 30 and 31, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., $10 per person, 135 Page Road, Gleason. Proceeds benefit the Gleason Class of 2025.

Pink Ball Gala
The Pink Ball Gala is October 28, 7 to 11 p.m. at Webb High School, 938 Walnut West Avenue, McKenzie. Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The event is in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Huntingdon School Board To Meet
Huntingdon Board of Education meets Wednesday, October 18, 5 p.m. at the Central Office, 585 High Street. Individuals wishing to address the board on an agenda item shall notify the director of school’s office by 1 p.m. on the day of the board meeting.

Carroll County Commission Meets Monthly
Carroll County Commission meets the second Monday of each month, 7 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Carroll County Office Complex, High Street, Huntingdon. There are no meetings in December, February, and July.

Carroll County Republican Party Meets
The Carroll County Republican Party meets Tuesday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in the court room of the Public Safety building, 12740 Lexington Street, Huntingdon. This is the last meeting of 2023. Next meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2024.

Pasta and Politics Event Rescheduled
The Carroll County Republican Party annual Pasta & Politics dinner originally scheduled for September 30, 2023 has been rescheduled for January 27, 2024. More information to be provided at a later date.
