HUNTINGDON (June 3) — Dozens of summer readers packed the Carroll County Library Thursday for an informative and interactive program presented by rangers from Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park in Camden.

Ranger Jackson Daniels introduced the kids to Ren, an eastern box turtle. He discussed the turtle's habitat and behavior, including how his shell works to provide protection from predators and other dangers. Kids had the opportunity to pet or hold Ren.

Ranger Aaron Schapley brought out Leo, a Baird's rat snake. He discussed Leo's natural habitat of the desert Southwest, his hunting and eating habits and how he sheds his skin. The kids were also allowed to pet or hold Leo, who was calm and well-behaved throughout.

Ranger Daniels presented a collection of pelts and allowed kids to feel the fur of different animals such as raccoons, foxes, beavers and coyotes.

Carroll County Library's Summer Reading Program continues Tuesday, July 8 with a paint party at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 10 with a visit from Smokey Bear at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with the "Color Our World" Summer Reading Finale on Thursday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m.
