Debbie Jean Joyner McKnight

TREZEVANT — Debbie Jean Joyner McKnight died Saturday, October 5, 2019 in Jackson-Madison County Hospital.
Debbie was born in Trezevant, Carroll County, Tennessee on October 7, 1957, to the Late Dorothy “Pody” Adkisson Joyner and William Charles “W. C.” Joyner.
Debbie married the late Eddie Boyd, and to this union, one child, Veleka, was born. Later, she married the late Charles McKnight.
She graduated in 1976 from Trezevant High School in Trezevant, Tennessee. She was renowned across the state of Tennessee for her electrifying athleticism on the basketball court. She played for the Trezevant High School Blue Devilettes Basketball Team. She led Trezevant to two state championships. Debbie earned All-District, All West-Tennessee, and All-State honors. She was TSSAA State Tournament MVP in 1974 and 1976. She scored 5,078 points in her career at Trezevant High School.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Carl and Bernard Joyner, and one granddaughter, Favon Jones. She leaves to cherish her precious memory two daughters, Veleeka Boyd and Chantele Joyner of Humboldt, Tenn., two grandchildren, three sisters, Kay (James) Hale; Carolyn (R. T.) Holder; and Mary Cooper all of Milan, TN, four brothers: Ronnie (Pamela) Joyner and Darrell Joyner of Trezevant, Reggie Joyner of Humboldt and Stanley Joyner of McKenzie.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 12 at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Trezevant with Bishop Pipkin officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Humboldt.
