The official Walk Across Tennessee Results for Carroll County are in! This challenge was held by the Carroll County UT Extension office September 18-November 12, 2023. There were 11 teams of six that participated this year, and they each worked hard to reach their physical activity goals. All together, the teams walked 12,237.96 miles over eight weeks. That’s the equivalent of walking across Tennessee almost 25 times!

McKENZIE (November 28) — Ford’s Blue Oval -SK Battery project in the west Tennessee community of Stanton will be operational in 2025 and employing thousands of workers throughout the region. It is slated to assemble 500,000 electric trucks annually. While the main assembly plant is in Stanton, thousands of jobs will be scattered in communities throughout of west Tennessee.

CHATTANOOGA (December 1) — On Friday afternoon, the McKenzie Rebels made their fourth appearance in the BlueCross Bowl. After claiming the championship in 2022, the Rebels fell short 14-7 to the South Pittsburg Pirates on Friday after a hard fought game that was scoreless until the third quarter when a Jake Cassidy touchdown put the Rebels on the board. This was the third meeting of the two programs all of which have gone in favor of the Pirates.

McKENZIE — The aggravated robbery of Jack Martin Jewelry in downtown McKenzie on November 28 left the elderly store owner with injuries and the loss of $10,000 in cash and a necklace that was worn around the shop owner’s neck.

HUNTINGDON (November 28) — On Tuesday night, Huntingdon High School welcomed Union City for a pair of basketball games. The Huntingdon Fillies improved to 5-1 on the season with a 63-43 win over the Golden Tornadoes, while the Mustangs dropped to 1-4 with a 75-56 loss.

WASHINGTON, DC (November 29) — The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), a division within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a partnership to distribute free COVID-19 tests to schools across the country. In a letter sent to local education agencies (LEAs) by ED, school districts are being encouraged to order tests directly from the federal government to be made available to students, parents, staff, and school communities.

Sitting in the media workroom Friday afternoon, I witnessed Alcoa win its ninth consecutive TSSAA Football Championship with twenty-two overall championships. Instantly, I hear chatter about how they should move up to 4A or even 5A. Then after McKenzie was defeated, I walked back into the media workroom feeling rather dejected. After a few minutes, I was thinking about how it would be nice not to have to play South Pittsburg ever again because they need to be playing in 2A or 3A. After all, it’s just not fair.

Domestic Assault, Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property — Jesse Leo Thomas, 24, of Huntingdon, was arrested on November 25 for Domestic Assault and Vandalism. The victim of Thomas stated that Thomas picked up her phone and threw it at the oven which shattered the glass of the oven and the phone. He broke the dresser mirror, a rainbow vacuum, the return vent of the HVAC unit, and a television. He kicked and punched holes in the doors and walls and threw items off counters. He also through garbage all over the floor.
