LETTER: Golden Dome Missile System
From the May 27, 2025 e-EditionOne component of President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is the construction of a golden dome. Let’s take a close look at this proposal.
- The golden dome is a sophisticated anti-missile missile system. It is based on the Iron Dome system in Israel. Domes cover the entire area of a country. The area of Israel is 8,522 square miles. The area of the United States of America is 3,810,000 square miles. The area of the USA is 372 times larger than the area of Israel.
- The components of an anti-missile missile system include missiles, explosives, radar, and satellites, all controlled by large computer systems. The computer systems require large amounts of electricity. Currently, most electricity is produced by fossil fuels, which is a contributor to global warming.
- The first estimated cost for this system is: $175,000,000,000. The 2025 Pentagon budget is: $893,000,000,000.
- About 1,100,000,000 people in the world live in multidimensional poverty. Multidimensional poverty includes inadequate food, healthcare, education, safe water, and sanitation.
- Spending $175,000,000,000 on a golden dome proposal while 1,100,000,000 people live in multidimensional poverty is IMMORAL and should be defeated.
