Dateline: Middleburg, Florida,  formerly of Springville, Tenn. - Funeral services for Gwendolyn “Joye” Russell are Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mrs. Russell, known to some as Mom, Sis, Granny, Gigi or Aunt died Monday at Haven Hospice Custead Care Center, Middleburg, Florida. She is a retired Civil Service payroll clerk for the Navy, a member of Black Creek Church of Christ in Middleburg and previously a member of Springville Church of Christ. She was born in McKenzie on August 22, 1932 to Sam and Loreese Bobbitt Byars.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Brenda) Russell of Middleburg and Steve Russell of Port Angeles, Washington, sisters, Iris Nell (Norman) Fry of Omaha, Nebraska, Sammie Best of Keystone Heights, Florida, brother, Carl (Alisa) Byars of Huntingdon, five grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) Jannotti of Middleburg, Florida, Shane (Jennifer) Russell of Middleburg, David (Kristen) Russell of Panama City, Florida, Mary Elayne (Heather) Minneapolis, Minnesota and Nate (Anja) Russell of Alhambra, California, five great-grandchildren, Lindsay Russell, Reagan Jannotti, Rylee Jannotti, Lynden Russell and Eloise Russell and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bobby Joe Russell, and her sister, Dorothy Lopez.
