McKENZIE (June 29) — The Eubanks family in McKenzie and the Habitat for Humanity leadership celebrated the completion of the 23rd house built by Habitat in the county. Judith Eubanks, her daughter, Julee, and her dad, Landon, are blessed with a new 1,149-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath home on May Street in McKenzie.

Habitat is a hand up, not a handout, that provides affordable housing for qualifying families. The families pay the mortgage, which is more affordable thanks to volunteer labor during construction.

Judith and Julee both had birthdays during the week. The Sunday dedication added to the celebration.

Julee said, “This is the best birthday gift ever.

The groundbreaking ceremony was in October 2024. On Sunday, members of the Huntingdon Men’s Club, Habitat board members, and friends gathered for the blessing of the house.

Participating in the ceremony were Johnathon Jackson, chairman; Keith Priestley, who offered a prayer for the family, the community, and the new house, and the Habitat organization and its mission; Kassie Taylor, office manager for the county’s Habitat; and Andrew Stokes, longtime board member and past chairman.

The project manager was Rhonda Walsh and the build manager was Wayne Yoder. Tennessee College of Applied Technology’s building trades class, Huntingdon Methodist Men, board members, and other volunteers assisted with the build.
