Happy Book Stack Opens in McKenzie
From the Jun 10, 2025 e-Edition
McKENZIE (June 9) — Downtown McKenzie gained another new business as The Happy Book Stack opened its doors for the first time Monday morning.
The bookstore and coffee shop, located at 55 Broadway, is owned by David Jacobs, who owns another store of the same name in Murfreesboro.
Approximately 11,000 books fill the shelves of the McKenzie shop, but there's still a spacious area for customers to read, relax, play games or work.
The coffee shop offers drip coffee, cold brew, espresso, teas, lattes and blended drinks, as well as sandwiches, subs, salads and soups.
The ten-person staff is led by Store Manager Stephanie McClerkin and Assistant Manager Lollie Brown, both of McKenzie.
McClerkin told The Banner, "I'm so excited McKenzie has a space for coffee and books, a social space for people to hang out."
She noted that it's a great space for people to "work from home" away from home as well as for students to focus on their studies, with Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets available.
McClerkin and Jacobs expressed their appreciation to John and Courtney Sellers, owners of Martin's - Coffee and Bakery in Martin, for their assistance throughout the opening process.
A private room is available for rent for $25 per hour (minimum two hours). Eventually, Happy Book Stack plans to host its own events in the space.
This week, the shop is open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Next week, Happy Book Stack will commence regular hours, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday hours are on the horizon, according to Jacobs and McClerkin.
Announcements and other information can be found on Facebook (The Happy Book Stack McKenzie) and Instagram (thehappybookstackmckenzie). Look for a TikTok account to be launched soon.
