Huntingdon Sweeps Collinwood

HUNTINGDON (January 3) — Huntingdon’s Fillies and Mustangs played host to potential region tournament foe Collinwood last Thursday night to open the 2019 portion of the season.
Fillies 53 Collinwood 35
The Fillies came out hot outscoring Collinwood 21-10 in the first period aided by five 3-pointers from 3 different players. Tyasia Reed scored 11 of her eventual 18 points in the first period including three of those five three pointers.In the second period, the Fillies held the Lady Trojans to just 6 points while scoring 12 points of their own including two more 3-pointers to lead 33-16 at the half. Adyn Swenson and Reed combined for 15 of Huntingdon’s 18 points in the third period while they held Collinwood to single digits again to open up the lead to 51-23 by the end of three periods. Both teams played their benches in the final period with Collinwood outscoring Huntingdon 12-2 in the final period with Huntingdon winning 53-35.
The Fillies had three in double figures led by Tyasia Reed’s 18 points including four 3-pointers. Adyn Swenson and Brooke Butler had 11 points each while Allie Jones added 8 points including a pair of three-pointers. Macey Culbreath and Greenlee Sharp chipped in 3 points and 2 points respectively.
Collinwood was led by Sophi Gobbelli with 13 points. Kristen Retherford and Emily Kautsky added 6 points each. Asia Kelly had 3 while Carlie Berry, Rosqunda Alvarado, and Rhianna McWilliams had 2 points each. AC Whitehead chipped in 1 for the Lady Trojans.
Mustangs 65 Collinwood 24
The boys game followed much the same blueprint as the girls contest with the Mustangs playing a close first quarter leading the Trojans 13-9 after one period. Kaleel Bailey scored 9 of the 13 first quarter points for Huntingdon.
They exploded in the second period blitzing Collinwood 28-4 with Bailey and Xavier White combining for 19 of the Mustang’s 28 points. Huntingdon led 41-13 at halftime. The third period was a copy of the first period with the Mustangs outscoring Collinwood 13-8 to lead 54-21 heading into the final period. Both teams played their benches in the fourth period with Huntingdon outscoring the Trojans 11-3 to win 65-24.
Kaleel Bailey and Xavier White led 11 Mustang scorers with 17 points each. Javon Pritchard added 9 points. Dallas Willis had 5, Kameron Gordon had 4, and Ben Taylor had 3. Nick Bynum, Drake Butler, Hunter Ledsinger, Grant Bartholomew, and Kieryen Jordan all had 2 points each for the Mustangs.
Collinwood was led by Noah Hollis and Kiethen Risner with 6 points each followed by Joe Thompson with 5 points. Dayton Scott, Tucker Thompson, and Klein Caperton all had two points each while Jensen Bray chipped in a point for the Trojans.
