I met Henry Walter “Hamper” McBee in 1965. He was a mid-thirty, fast talking, skinny guy wearing an out-of-place black vest and sporting a huge, oversized handlebar mustache. He was sitting on a table in Tubby’s Drive Inn singing a song he’d written about a local highway patrolman named Bill Malone.
