HUNTINGDON (January 15) — Huntingdon High School hosted county and district rival McKenzie Friday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Rebels pulled away in the second quarter and coasted to an 84-59 victory. The boys’ game was back-and-forth. The Rebels jumped ahead early, but the Mustangs rallied to lead at the half. A McKenzie rally in the fourth came up just short, and Huntingdon claimed a 64-61 win.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 84, Huntingdon Fillies 59
The Lady Rebels had a 19-17 edge after the opening frame, led by Savannah Davis with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Briley Auvenshine and Kylie Reynolds each scored four. Lilly Bennett had a pair, and Anna Callahan hit a free throw. Brooklyn Williams led the Fillies with eight points. Sophie Singleton scored four, Addison Postlethwait had three points, and Brooke Butler had a pair.
McKenzie doubled up Huntingdon 24-12 in the second quarter, led by Davis with eleven points, including a three. K. Reynolds and Bennett each scored four, Reynolds with a three. MiKaela Reynolds also hit a three, and Auvenshine added a pair. S. Singleton led the Fillies with four points. Postlethwait and Shelby Childress each scored three, and Williams added a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 43-29.
The Lady Rebels had a 23-12 advantage in the third, led by Davis with nine points, including a pair of threes. M. Reynolds scored six with a three, and K. Reynolds also had six points. Auvenshine added a pair. Lia Fuller led Huntingdon with six points, including a three. S. Singleton hit a three, and Williams also scored three points. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 66-41.
The fourth was an 18-18 wash. Davis and Bennett led the Lady Rebels with five points each, both with a three. Kyeana Sneed scored three points. K. Reynolds added a pair, and Hannah Dillingham, Savannah Nesbitt and Katie Chesser each hit a free throw. Childress, Annabelle Singleton and Ashlyn Rich each hit a three for Huntingdon. Fuller also scored three points, and Williams, Postlethwait and Lilly Kee each had a pair.
Lady Rebel Savannah Davis led all scorers with 33 points, including six three-pointers. Kylie Reynolds scored 16 with a three, and Lilly Bennett had eleven points with a three.
Brooklyn Williams led the Fillies with 15 points. Sophie Singleton scored eleven with a three-pointer.
Mustangs 64, Rebels 61
McKenzie had a 23-13 lead after the first frame, led by Bryson Steele and Marquez Taylor with six points each. Caleb Gill scored four, and Elijah Seivers had three points. Zayden McCaslin and Johnathan Moore each had a pair. D’Allen McCord led Huntingdon with five points. Jeb Atkinson hit a three-pointer. Blake Bradley and Jeremiah Irving each had a pair, and Grant Bartholomew hit a free throw.
The Mustangs took the lead with a 22-10 advantage in the second quarter, led by McCord with eight points. Bartholomew scored seven, and Irving had three points. Milton Clark and Javon Pritchard each had a pair. Taylor and Zay Webber each hit a three for the Rebels, and Steele and Eli Surber each had a pair. At the half, the Mustangs led 35-33.
Huntingdon added to the lead with an 11-7 edge in the third, led by Bradley with six points on a pair of threes. Bartholomew scored three points, and Keyshaun Hoard had a pair. Moore hit a three for McKenzie, and Taylor added a pair. Steele and Webber each hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, the Mustangs led 46-40.
The Rebels’ rally in the fourth came up just short at 21-18, led by Taylor with nine points. Gill scored four points. Moore and Surber each hit a three, and Steele added a pair. McCord led Huntingdon with five points. Bartholomew and Hoard each scored four, Bradley had three points, and Clark added a pair.
Rebel Marquez Taylor led all scorers with 20 points, including a three-pointer. Bryson Steele scored eleven.
D’Allen McCord led the Mustangs with 18 points. Grant Bartholomew scored 15, and Blake Bradley had eleven with a pair of threes.
