MILAN (November 23) — McKenzie traveled Monday for a pair of non-district basketball contests at Milan High School. The Lady Rebels shook off a slow start to rout the Lady Bulldogs, 60-36. The Bulldogs paced the Rebels into the second half, but McKenzie pulled away late for a 58-47 victory.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 60, Milan Lady Bulldogs 36
Milan had a 14-12 edge after the opening frame. Katie Parr, Brooklyn Spates and Kara Scott each hit a three-pointer. Atiya Burns also scored three points, and Iyanna Hall had a pair. Savannah Davis led McKenzie with five points, including a three. Dani Dyer also hit a three, and Kylie Reynolds and Lilly Bennett each had a pair.
The Lady Rebels doubled up the Lady Bulldogs 18-9 to take the lead in the second quarter. Davis and Katie Chesser each scored six, Chesser on a pair of threes. K. Reynolds, Bennett and Anna Callahan each had a pair. Burns led Milan with five points, and Parr and Makayla Lewis each had a pair. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 30-23.
McKenzie pulled away in the third with a 19-5 advantage, led by Davis with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers. K. Reynolds hit a three, and MiKaela Reynolds had a pair. Spates and Burns each added a pair for the Lady Bulldogs, and Hall hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 49-28.
The Lady Rebels capped the win with an 11-8 tilt in the fourth, led by Chesser with a three. Dyer, M. Reynolds, Callahan and Savannah Nesbitt each had a pair. Parr scored three points for Milan, Spates and Hall each added a pair, and Burns hit a free throw.
Lady Rebel Savannah Davis led all scorers with 25 points, including a trio of threes.
Atiya Burns led the Lady Bulldogs with eleven points.
Rebels 58, Bulldogs 47
Milan jumped out to a 22-15 lead after the first frame, led by Jodarius Robinson with eight points. Adam Arnold scored six on a pair of three-pointers, and Kamaris Turner also had six points. Easton Yates had a pair. Bryson Steele led McKenzie with seven points, including a three. Johnathan Moore scored five with a three, and Caleb Gill also hit a three.
The Rebels pulled within a point with an 18-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by Marquez Taylor with eight points, including a pair of threes. Steele scored six, and Eli Surber had four points. Turner led the Bulldogs with eight points, including a three. Arnold and Dylan Todd each had a pair. At the half, Milan led 34-33.
McKenzie doubled up Milan 16-8 in the third to take the lead, led by Surber with five points, including a three-pointer. Gill scored three points, and Steele, Moore, Jaden Currie and Zayden McCaslin each had a pair. Bulldogs Turner, Robinson, Arnold and Todd each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 49-42.
The Rebels capped the win with a 9-5 tilt in the fourth, led by Taylor with four points with a three. Moore also hit a three, and Steele added a pair. Turner scored three points for Milan, and Arnold and Carmelo Jones each hit a free throw.
Bulldog Kamaris Turner led all scorers with 19 points, including a three-pointer.
Bryson Steele led McKenzie with 17, including a three. Marquez Taylor had a dozen points with a trio of three-pointers.
