The McKenzie High School golf teams recently wrapped up the regular season with a series of victories, including big wins at home on Senior Night.
Monday, August 31 was the last home match and Senior Night for the 2020 golf season. The five senior golfers were honored at the course and joined by family members. The seniors include: Maggie Glass, Johnathan Moore, Logan Green, Nathan Nanney and Matt Espey.
The teams played on a soggy course as rain continued off-and-on throughout the match. The MHS teams did not let the rain or the soggy course stop them from claiming victory during their last home match.
The ladies were led by Maggie Glass shooting a 32, and Juleyanne Weatherford shot 43 to complete the team’s score of 75. The ladies secured wins over Huntingdon with a 103 and Union City with a 116.
The gentlemen were led by Johnathan Moore and Logan Green, as both shot 38, Nathan Nanney shot 42 and Nolan Renfro shot 44 to complete the team’s score of 162. The gentlemen secured wins over Union City with a 178 and South Fulton with a 207.
On Thursday, September 3, the team traveled to Magic Valley Golf Course in Camden to play against Camden and Henry County. With all of the recent heavy rains, the teams faced a course that was challenging due to the soft grounds. The McKenzie golf teams faced the challenge and persevered.
Maggie Glass led the ladies with a 37 and was match medalist, Juleyanne Weatherford shot 45 to complete the team score of 82, claiming victory over Henry County with a 107.
Johnathan Moore led the gentlemen with a 39 and was match medalist, Nolan Renfro shot 42, Logan Green shot 45 and Nathan Nanney with a 52 completed the team score of 178. The gentlemen finished only one stroke ahead of Henry County, coming in with 179. McKenzie also claimed the win over Camden with a 203.
Tuesday, September 8, the team traveled to Persimmon Hills in Sharon. The ladies played against Greenfield and Gleason while the gentlemen played against Westview and South Fulton.
The ladies’ team was led by match medalist Maggie Glass with a 39, and Juleyanne Weatherford shot 46 for a team score of 85. The ladies were victorious over Greenfield with 122 and Gleason with 134.
The gentlemen’s team was led by match medalist Logan Green with a 39, Johnathan Moore shot 41, Nathan Nanney shot 45 and Nolan Renfro shot 55 for a team score of 180. The gentlemen were also victorious over Westview with 200 and South Fulton with 218.
District tournaments begin on Monday, September 14 with the Boys District 14 Tournament and Tuesday, September 15 with the Girls District 14 Tournament. Both of these tournaments are played at Persimmon Hills in Sharon.
