MANCHESTER (September 29-30) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel golf team and two individual Rebel golfers competed last week in the TSSAA Division I Small Class Golf State Championships at WillowBrook Golf Club and represented their school well.

The Lady Rebel team of senior Maggie Glass, junior Juleyanne Weatherford and sophomore Payton Ognibene finished fourth in the state. Glass shot 80 on Day 1 and 83 on Day 2 for a total of 163. Weatherford shot 99 on Day 1 and 101 on Day 2 for a total of 200. Ognibene shot 122 on Day 1 and 123 on Day 2 for a total of 245.

Glass posted an eighth place individual finish. She ends her high school career with four consecutive state tournament appearances.

Rebel seniors Johnathan Moore and Logan Green competed as individuals. Moore shot 76 on Day 1 and 81 on Day 2 for a total of 157. Green shot 86 on Day 1 and 88 on Day 2 for a total of 174.

Moore earned a ninth place individual finish. Green finished in the top half of the field and ends his high school career with three consecutive state appearances.

McKenzie’s strong performance serves as a fitting swan song for Coach Larry Joe Smith, who was recently named the next head coach of the Bethel University women’s golf program.
