McKenzie Middle School opened the hoops season at home against Huntingdon with the girls getting a win and the boys losing to the Mustangs.
McKenzie’s Lady Rebels opened the game with a 10-1 run and led 14-9 at the half.
It was the third and fourth quarters the Lady Rebels got hot outscoring Huntingdon 26-13 to post a 40-22 win.
The Lady Rebels placed three in double figures led by Savannah Davis with 13 points. Nicole Gibson had 11 points while Kyeona Sneed had 10 points.
Mikaela Reynolds chipped in 6 free throws for McKenzie.
In boys’ action, Huntingdon pulled away late posting a 43-30 win over the Rebels.
The two teams played to a 9-all tie in the first period.
The Mustangs took a slim 20-18 lead at the half and opened that lead to 33-26 after three periods.
Points were hard to come by for the Rebels in the fourth period as Huntingdon pulled away to win 43-30.
Tate Surber led McKenzie with 8 points while Stafford Roditis, Landon Brown, and Christopher Beck all had 7 points each.
Huntingdon was led by Kaleb Pearson and Tayshawn Rivers with 11 points each. Ashton Hutcherson added 9 points while Jordan Willis and Deshaun Knight had 4 points each. Jax Bennett and Gray Eubanks chipped in 3 points and 1 point respectively
