The McKenzie School Board met in regular session Tuesday, October 1 with a short agenda. Boardmembers approved a budget amendment regarding the annual Safe Schools Grant. They also approved the annual report of School System/School Compliance for 2019-2020. The district is in compliance with the State Board Rules, Regulations and Minimum Standards.
The MSSD Disciplinary Hearing Authority made up of School Resource Officer Nick Lowe, MES Principal Tonya Brown, MMS Principal Dorethea Royle and MHS Principal Kelly Spivey was approved by the board.
Boardmembers approved the first reading of an update to the Code of Behavior and Discipline in the MSSD Policy Manual.
Director Lynn Watkins announced the School System hired Tracie Baker as a special needs educational assistant and added three new substitute teachers Kevin Beck, Kelly Henry and Courtney Travelstead. Watkins also announced the next school board meeting is December 3 since the board doesn’t meet in November.
Prior to adjourning, Board member Norman French, recognized the Lady Rebel Golf team for recently winning their third straight district and region titles and advancing to the state golf tournament.
