Carroll County Relay for Life is September 9

Posted

Relay for Life is “Rocking and Rolling” back to Carroll County on Saturday, September 9, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Carroll County Civic Center in Huntingdon. Michelle Tucker and Jennifer Horton are the co-chairs for this event and are so excited to welcome your ideas to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Because of COVID, the event has not been held since 2019.

ACS’ administrative costs have decreased to 19% from the 30s% prior to COVID, which means that now 85-90 cents of every dollar raised goes to research and medical education programs for all Americans. There are so many services offered that will be featured at this year’s Relay for Life Event including free rides to treatment, free lodging during treatment, ACS Cares, Cancer Survivors Network and more.

The process of honoring cancer survivors has also changed to allow for less waste. Cancer survivor are requested to register by calling 1-800-227-2345 or going online @acsengage.org/westtn so ACS can mail your free t-shirt to you. There will not be wasted piles of t-shirts at our Relay event this year. You will be able to wear your mailed t-shirt to the Relay event on 9/9/23, so please get registered ASAP to allow time for mailing.

This event focuses on survivors, because they are the reason we Relay. If you don’t get registered in time to get your shirt, come any way, but we wanted to make sure everyone knows of this new t-shirt process in advance.

Luminaries are now available for purchase to honor loved ones. Those are $5 each and can be decorated by you or the local staff members. Feel free to add photos, stickers, etc to make your memorial special to line our track for our Survivor Lap and Luminary Memorial Ceremony. This is such a special time of the evening for so many!

Businesses, friends, families and workplaces are encouraged to host a team. Please contact Michelle or Jennifer via Facebook for more information. Please like and share our Facebook page at Carroll County Relay to help us spread the word about this year’s event.

Food concessions will be for sale at the event. The menu includes hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ bologna and ribeye steak sandwiches, pecan tassies, sweet tea, sodas, popcorn, ice cream, and much more. Please plan to come have lunch and supper with us.

Entertainment includes pony rides, petting zoo, inflatable obstacle course, adult and children’s games, cake walk, local entertainment, fellowship, and good times. Please plan to join us and bring your friends and families to help support and celebrate all our loved ones who are fighting or have lost their fight to cancer.
