Posted

McKENZIE — Jim Tracy, state director of USDA’s Rural Development was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of McKenzie on October 15.

Tracy, from Shelbyville, serves the entire state of Tennessee. He said USDA works with small cities and counties with grants and low-interest loans for infrastructure projects.

Recently, the federal agency helped the city of McKenzie with its wastewater system improvement project, helped McKenzie Industrial Board with a marketing grant, the McKenzie Fire Department with a $9,500 grant to purchase a rescue truck, $40,000 to the local Tennessee College of Applied Technology, provided $28,000 to the Bruceton community to purchase computers.

Carroll County is one of 16 economically struggling counties in Tennessee, said Tracy.

Tennessee’s USDA Rural Development is rated as one of the top four or five USDA agencies in the U.S.
