SUMMERTOWN (February 28) — The West Carroll War Eagles battled for a 56-50 road win over the Summertown Eagles Friday in the opening round of the Region 6A Boys Basketball Tournament.
The win sets up a rubber match with McKenzie in Tuesday’s semifinal round at Wayne County High School in Waynseboro. The War Eagles and Rebels split during the regular season, and fans of both teams have been itching for a decisive rematch that had been expected to come in the district championship last week.
West Carroll had an 11-9 edge after the first frame, led by Josh Clark with six points. Jalen Anglin scored five with a three-pointer. Kaden Tritter led Summertown with seven points, including a three, and Gavin Burleson had a pair.
The Eagles rallied 16-13 in the second quarter to take a one-point halftime lead. Burleson led with eight, including a three. Grant Burleson scored three points, Eric Higdon and Austin Morrow each had a pair, and Carter Clanton hit a free throw. Anglin led the War Eagles with eight points. Tyler Johnson hit a three, and Clark added a pair. At the break, Summertown led 25-24.
The War Eagles regained the lead with a 16-9 advantage in the third, led by Luke Moore with seven points, including a three-pointer. Anglin scored five with a three, and Clark and Jeremiah Bryant each had a pair. Tritter led Summertown with four points. Gavin B. hit a three, and Higdon added a pair. Heading into the final frame, West Carroll led 40-34.
The fourth was a 16-16 wash. Anglin led the War Eagles with seven points, including a three. Bryant and Clark each scored three points, Jed Robinson had a pair, and Moore hit a freebie. Gavin B. led the Eagles with ten points, including a pair of threes. Clanton, Grant B. and Tritter each added a pair.
War Eagle Jalen Anglin led all scorers with 25 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Josh Clark scored 13 points.
Gavin Burleson led Summertown with 23 points, including four three-pointers. Kaden Tritter scored 13 with a three.
