West Carroll Sweeps Peabody

ATWOOD (December 12) — West Carroll hosted Peabody High School Thursday for a pair of non-district basketball contests and earned a sweep. The Lady War Eagles pulled ahead early and held off a second-half rally by the Lady Tide for a 57-54 win. The War Eagles went back-and-forth with the Golden Tide before finishing strong to claim a 56-51 victory.

West Carroll Lady War Eagles 57, Peabody Lady Tide 54

The Lady War Eagles jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Amaya Thompson with eight points. Mia Jones scored four, and Tatym Keymon had a pair. Mia Easley led the Lady Tide with three points, and CeCe Johnson had a pair.

West Carroll added to the lead with a 9-8 edge in the second quarter, led by Thompson with six points. Macey Cunningham hit a three-pointer. Johnson scored five for Peabody, including a three, and K.K. Norman scored three points. At the half, the Lady War Eagles led 23-13. The Lady Tide cut into the deficit with a 21-18 advantage in the third, led by Norman with ten points. Adriana Skinner scored seven with a three-pointer, and Easley and MaKayla Skinner each had a pair. Keymon led West Carroll with six points, and Alyssa Butler scored five with a three. Gracie Cunningham hit a three-pointer, and Octavia Jones had a pair. M. Cunningham and Thompson each hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, the Lady War Eagles led 41-34.

Peabody rallied 20-16 in the fourth for a closer final score, led by A. Skinner with ten points, including a three. Norman scored four, and Johnson hit a three. M. Skinner added a pair, and Easley hit a free throw. M. Cunningham and Keymon each score four points for West Carroll, and Thompson had three points. M. Jones and Denver Brooks each had a pair, and Butler hit a freebie.

Lady War Eagle Amaya Thompson led all scorers with 18 points. Tatym Keymon scored a dozen.

The Lady Tide’s Adriana Skinner and K.K. Norman each scored 17, Skinner with a pair of threes. CeCe Johnson had ten points.

War Eagles 56, Golden Tide 51

Peabody had a 16-13 lead after the first frame, led by Keyonta Ross with 12 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Demarkus Kee and Derek Kee each had a pair. Jed Robinson led West Carroll with five points, including a three. Luke Moore and Jack Barrow each scored three points, and Jalen Anglin had a pair.

The War Eagles took the lead with a 14-9 tilt in the second quarter, led by Robinson with six points on a pair of threes. Anglin scored four, and Moore and Jeremiah Bryant each had a pair. Demarkus Kee scored four for the Golden Tide, Davonta Lyles hit a three, and Derek Kee added a pair. At the half, West Carroll led 27-25.

The Golden Tide stormed back 20-12 in the third to reclaim the lead. Ross led with seven, including a three. Lyles scored six on a pair of threes, and Demarkus Kee also hit a three. Derek Kee and Nigel Brooks each had a pair. Moore led the War Eagles with five points, including a three. Bryant scored four, and Tyler Johnson hit a three-pointer. Heading into the final frame, Peabody led 45-39.

West Carroll rallied 17-6 in the fourth to claim the win, led by Anglin with ten, including a pair of threes. Moore scored five with a three, and Bryant added a pair. Brooks led the Golden Tide with three points, Derek Kee added a pair, and Ross hit a free throw.

Peabody’s Keyonta Ross led all scorers with 20 points, including four three-pointers. Davonta Lyles scored nine on a trio of threes.

Jalen Anglin led the War Eagles with 16 points, including a pair of threes. Luke Moore scored 15, also with a pair of threes. Jed Robinson had eleven with a trio of three-pointers.
