West Carroll Sweeps Sacred Heart, Splits with Bradford

West Carroll Basketball had a busy week last week with a Tuesday night game against Trenton being postponed and then playing back to back games on Thursday and Friday night. Thursday night they traveled to Jackson to face Sacred Heart winning both contests and then came back home Friday night to host Bradford and split games against the Red Devils

Lady War Eagles 69, Sacred Heart 21

West Carroll burst out to a 25-2 first quarter lead and never looked back as they outscored Sacred Heart three of the four periods to post a lopsided win. The Lady War Eagles led 46-10 at the half and 62-13 at the end of three periods.

Macy Cunningham and Mia Jones led West Carroll with 13 points each while Tatym Keymon had nine points. Gracie Cunningham had seven points while Denver Brooks, Alyssa Butler, and Amaya Thompson all had six points each.

Jasmine Blankenship led Sacred Heart with 10 points followed by Asia Thompson with 5 points. Brianna Green, Caitlin Gill, and Ariah Thompson all chipped in two points each for Sacred Heart

War Eagles 59, Sacred Heart 50

The boys’ contest was considerably closer with the War Eagles outscoring Sacred Heart 21-9 in the final period to get the win. The first half was close with West Carroll leading 13-11 after one period and Sacred Heart leading 26-25 at halftime. Sacred Heart continued to lead at the end of three periods 41-38 heading into the final period.

Jalen Anglin led West Carroll with 23 points followed by Luke Moore with 10 points. Tyler Johnson and Jed Robinson added 7 points each while Josh Clark added 6 points. Jeremiah Bryant and Jack Barrow chipped in four points and two points respectively.

Sacred Heart was led by Trey Trull and Javion Greer with 13 points each while Will Keyl added 9 points. Xander Taylor had six points, Kendrick Beard had 5 points and Dalton McIntyre chipped in four for Sacred Heart.

Bradford 70, Lady War Eagles 69

Bradford led early in the first quarter but West Carroll took over the lead until the end of the quarter when Bradford hit a three-pointer and drew a foul to take a 15-13 lead at the end of one period.

After a 20-20 tie game the Lady War Eagles exploded outscored Bradford 14-6 to lead 34-26 at the half. West Carroll led by as much as 12 midway through the third period before Bradford hit back to back threes to cut the lead to 9. West Carroll maintained a 51-39 lead at the end of the third period.

Bradford got hot from three-point range in the fourth period tying the game at 62 with two minutes to play. The two teams swapped shots until the final seconds when Bradford hit the game winner with 7 seconds to play and West Carroll wasn’t able to get a shot off at the buzzer. The Lady Red Devils outscored West Carroll 31-18 in the final period to complete the comeback win.

Macey Cunningham led four Lady War Eagles in double figures with 16 points along with Mia Jones with 15 points. Tatym Keymon and Alyssa Butler had 12 and 11 points respectively. Denver Brooks had six points while Gracie Cunningham had five points and Amaya Thompson chipped in four points for the Lady War Eagles.

Rebecca Walters and Hanna Avery led Bradford with 20 and 19 points respectively. Ashlynn Powell and Dezarai White had 11 points each. Anna Lee Bratton and Macy Johnstone chipped in 5 points and four points respectively.

War Eagles 58, Bradford 53

The War Eagles jumped in the lead early and held a 19-12 lead at the end of the first period. The second period was closer with West Carroll narrowly outscoring Bradford 14-13 during the period but held a 33-25 lead at halftime.

Bradford outscored the War Eagles 11-6 in the third period to cut the lead to 39-36 heading into the final period. Bradford tied it up 47-47 with four minutes left to play but West Carroll regained the lead and went on to win 58-53.

Jalen Anglin led all scorers with 23 points while Luke Moore added 17 points for the War Eagles. Jeremiah Bryant had seven points while Jack Barrow had four points and Colton Hart had three points. Tyler Johnson and Jed Robinson chipped in two points apiece for the War Eagles.

Dawson Mackin and Tevin Schoonover led Bradford with 16 and 15 points respectively. Cameron Oglesby added 6 points while Jordan Ledbetter and Nate Oglesby added 5 points each for the Red Devils. Will Taylor had three points while Zachary Williams and Spencer Siddell chipped in two points and one point respectively for Bradford.
