Sometimes I think I have lived my life backwards. Spring break is a perfect example. We’d never heard of “such a thing” in 1962. In 1999, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce began sponsoring the Youth Leadership Carroll County (YLCC) program. Since that time, more than 570 students have graduated from YLCC. The classes are comprised of class members from each Carroll County high school. The program is made up of four sessions, two in the fall and two in the winter. more

The Inglenook Book Club met on March 8 at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 22 members attending. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Jean McKinnie and Genia Sherwood for the delicious cake, mixed nuts, chocolates and assorted beverages. HUNTINGDON (March 10) — State Representative Tandy Darby spoke at the Carroll County Civic Center Friday morning. Darby stated the state house had over 1,500 bills at the start of the session. They have currently passed 95 that have come before them. more

The Bank of Gleason honored Martha Arnold for 50 years of service with an Open House on Friday, March 10. Friends and family members filtered in all day to congratulate Arnold and enjoy cake and punch. “Over all these years, it’s the people that have made all the difference. I’ve come to cherish each and every one of them,” said Arnold. more
NASHVILLE — The percentage of unemployed persons increased slightly in the tri-county area of Carroll, Henry, and Weakley counties. Unemployment is near historic lows in the area, however, for the month of January 2023, the percentages increased while the state’s rate moved up to 3.5 percent from 2.9 percent from December 2022 to January 2023. Carroll County recorded a rate of unemployment at 4.6 percent in January compared to 3.5 percent one month earlier and 4.2 one year earlier. From a labor force of 11,094 were employed from a labor force of 11,629, leaving 535 unemployed. more

McKENZIE (March 7) — Twenty-five McKenzie High School students were allowed to tour the Cachengo facility at the former hospital building in McKenzie. The students were invited to the facility by Cachengo CEO, Ash Young. Members of the Young family and technicians of Cachengo explained the technology company’s mission of providing high-end data storage systems to meet global demands for Edge Computing, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by replacing the over-use of single, large CPUs with several smaller ones, embedded in each drive to perform localized computing where the data actually sits. more
