McKENZIE (December 5) — Carroll, Henry, and Benton counties are home to subterranean titanium, according to officials with IperionX. The publicly listed company is betting on the future of titanium mining in the northwest Tennessee communities to provide a lightweight, but strong metal for uses as aircraft, military vehicles, and even metal shields for EV batteries on automobiles. more

HUNTINGDON (August 18) — Donald Parish, one of two judges of the Circuit Court of the 24th Judicial District is retiring August 31 after 16 years on the bench. The Huntingdon native served the five-county area of Carroll, Henry, Decatur, Hardin and Benton counties. He did not seek another eight-year term of office. more
McKENZIE (September 8) — Thursday evening, during the regular meeting of the City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council, the council was made aware of the recent promotion of the police department’s Ryan White from lieutenant to assistant chief. more
CARROLL COUNTY (April 3) — Twelve high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test. The Carroll County Chamber hosted a luncheon on April 3 at Mallard’s Restaurant to honor these students. more
LEBANON (May 9) — Lebanon Special School District announces Dr. Michelle Massey Lowery is the new principal of Coles Ferry Elementary School. more
Nine local business, civic and government leaders graduated from the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce 2022 Adult Leadership Class. Since its inception in 1990, 428 people have graduated from the Chamber’s Adult Leadership program. more

NASHVILLE (June 19) — Allie Chappell placed second in the women’s group and eighth overall in the Music City Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K in Nashville. 160 runners participated in Nashville’s inaugural Juneteenth 5K walk/run, and 111 were women. The event began at Nashville’s historic Shelby Park. more

McKenzie High School alum Amber Wright earned the Best Sports Play-By-Play Award during February’s Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards in New York. Wright and her broadcasting partner, Davis Gregory, broadcast through the University of Tennessee at Martin’s (UTM) radio station, WUTM, and won the award for their play-by-play from night 3 of the 2022 UTM college rodeo. more

McKENZIE — Geneva Bledsoe had the best career and many precious memories of the many students she taught. She now moves slower but still enjoys a car ride with her daughter, Jennifer, who moved back home to live with her mom and is helping her celebrate 100 years of life. The official birthday was Tuesday, February 20, but the celebration continued as cards, e-mails, and flowers continued to arrive in celebration of Mrs. Bledsoe. The goal was 100 cards for her 100th birthday. Jennifer said the cards, letters, texts, and flowers keep coming. more
Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools with the Huntingdon Special School District, was honored as the Tennessee Music Educator Association’s Outstanding District Administrator of the Year. more
McKenzie (November 19) — As Miss Volunteer preliminary pageant season grows closer to the end, two new queens were named Saturday evening on Bethel University’s campus. more
Team Butler was the champion of the 2023 Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. The team had a score of 17 under par. The team was comprised of Joseph Butler, Brandon Kilburn, Blake Fawcett, and Evan Jarrett. The event was held at the Carroll Lake Golf Course in McKenzie. more
On February 21, 2024, Cheryl Oglesby-Townes walked up the sidewalk to McKenzie High School, not as a student as she did some 30 years ago, but as an honorary speaker for a program held at the school to commemorate Black History Month. more
