Welding is often considered a man’s trade, but Lillian Ninness is here to change that. The 2023 Huntingdon High School graduate is one of two women in her welding class at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-McKenzie (TCAT), but she won’t let that stop her from chasing her passion.

If you were anywhere near Hwy 22 North of Huntingdon on Friday, June 24, you likely heard multiple shots ringing out from the Carroll County Shooting Park. They were hosting one of three Shooting Hunger Events that take place across Tennessee.

Chick-fil-A celebrated its ten-year anniversary July 19 with a little help from Sweet Jordan’s and the Snack Shack food trucks parked outside of Bethel University’s Vera Low Center. The celebration was from noon until 5 p.m.

Within his little boy’s vivid imagination, Drew Hayes often played in the big leagues. Playing baseball in the backyard with his father was a regular occurrence growing up. “We would pretend to be our favorite teams playing against an opponent at a critical point in the game,” Drew recalled. “Those times were magical to me and I’m sure created the love I have for baseball.”

Chicken Gumbo
1 chicken, cut up
1 green pepper, chopped fine
1 large can mushrooms
2 bottles stuffed olives, sliced
1 can tomatoes
1medium sized onion
Salt, black pepper, and red pepper to taste
1 pod garlic
2 tablespoon sugar
Pinch of sage and parsley
Cooked rice
Add enough water to cover chicken until tender. Serve over rice. Serves 8-10

1 (10 oz.) package romaine salad mix
1 (24 oz.) jar grapefruit sections, well-drained
1 Rotisserie chicken, boned, cubed
1/2 red onion, sliced
Combine salad mix, grapefruit sections, chicken and onion in salad bowl.

McKenzie High School Class of 1972 recently held its 50-year reunion at Chandler’s Barn in McKenzie where a catered dinner, old times and fond memories greeted classmates. Stories from yesteryear helped rekindle friendships and the class had a pictorial tribute during the dinner honoring 24 deceased classmates.

HUNTINGDON (October 1) — Saturday was a weather-perfect day for an all-day band competition in Huntingdon. Bands traveled from throughout west and middle Tennessee and Mississippi to Paul Ward Stadium on the campus of Huntingdon High School.

McKENZIE (JUNE 21) — More than 100 persons attended the first-ever McKenzie Chamber of Commerce banquet on Tuesday, June 21 at The Venue at Waddell Place in McKenzie. The Chamber has more than 100 members in its inaugural year. Monica Heath serves as the executive director of the newly former McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
