The Jackson Symphony will present a free community concert on the Court Square in Huntingdon on Thursday evening July 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m. “Symphony on the Move” is an hour-long event sponsored by Huntingdon’s Paula Atkins and Clarksburg Mayor Howell Wayne Todd in cooperation with the Dixie and the Town of Huntingdon.

Huntingdon Primary and Huntingdon Middle School released the 2022-23 kindergarten through eighth grade school supply lists Thursday, July 14. High school students will receive a list when classes start August 2.

The Farmers Market Tomato Festival was a great success, bringing in over 340 customers. Lots of early shoppers purchased the bushels of beautiful ripe tomatoes, which did not last long. Customers sampled and bought great salsa and tasted and received recipes for savory tomato pie and a tomato salad. Our fun “tomato splat balls” were a big hit with our children visiting the market.

The Dixie Carter Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center hosts three of Carroll County’s best storytellers for a free event in celebration of Huntingdon’s bicentennial. Robert “Gus” Radford, Judge John Everett Williams, and W. Kent Jones will tell “Stories From the Past” on Saturday, August 6 at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:15.

McKENZIE (July 12) — McKenzie High School juniors Skyelor DeLoach and Belle O’Brien spoke to McKenzie’s Rotary Club Tuesday, July 12, in a regular meeting at McKenzie Station Bar and Grill. Skyelor and Belle represented McKenzie High School and McKenzie Rotary at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp in June.

Hunter Shields, a 23 year old student at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Paris, became the national champion in Motorcycle Service Technology, winning the Gold Medal at the 2022 National SkillsUSA Competitions. The national skilled trades championships, held in Atlanta, were June 21-23.

The Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce partnered with Nance Productions, owned and operated by Cody and Korie Nance, to host the second-annual 2022 Allegro Marinade’s Professional Bull Racing (PBR) event July 1 and 2 at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Paris. In addition to Allegro Marinade being the title sponsor, Chris Dowdy of Mossey Oak Properties presented the competition.

Mr. Jamie Smith of Smith and Sons Heating/Air received a special award earlier this year from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at McKenzie. Mr. Smith very graciously worked with students in the HVAC program while a search for an instructor was underway. Students were able to receive on-site training while working with the Smiths.
