PARIS — West Carroll High School War Eagles prevailed over the Stewart County Rebels in jamboree action at Henry County on Friday, August 11. more
HUNTINGDON (August 11) — Friday night, the Huntingdon Mustangs welcomed the Lexington Tigers for the annual Quarterback Club Jamboree at Paul Ward Stadium. The preseason match-up showcased both junior varsity and varsity Mustangs with each team competing through two quarters of play. The spectators who took the opportunity to preview Huntingdon High School football were not disappointed as both Mustang squads dominated the visiting Tigers. more
PARIS (August 11) — In the final pre-season matchup before the start of the regular 2023 season, McKenzie scored early and held on to defeat the 6A Mustangs of McCracken County, 20-14. In the three-preseason game, McKenzie has been able to hold McNairy County, Lexington and McCracken County to a combined 20 points. Offensively, the Rebels have totaled 64 points in the three scrimmages. more
McKenzie’s legendary barbecue pit master Chris Chadwick is a busy man, but don’t think that affects his cooking in any way. Since 2008, he has produced quality artisan smoked meats and built a strong reputation. He has attracted nationwide sponsors, flown to national competitions, and appeared on television. Yet the one-man-show still somehow finds the time to serve his hometown of McKenzie. more

The McKenzie Rotary started the new Rotary year with a strong showing with the induction of three new members. The new members are Ricky Price (Vice President of Pepsi MidAmerica), Ben Wolksi (Network Administrator at the University of Tennessee at Martin), and Ryan Griffin (City of McKenzie Mayor). Each new member received a certificate of membership, a challenge coin, and a welcome packet explaining about Rotary. The Rotary Club of McKenzie was chartered in 1937 and has served an intricate role in McKenzie. more
McKenzie, Huntingdon, West Carroll and Clarksburg released the enrollment census of students for the first week of the 2023-24 school year. more
ATWOOD (August 3) — West Carroll Special School District is proactively addressing security issues at each of its three school sites in McLemoreville, Trezevant and Atwood. The Board voted to start the process to possibly make upgrades at each school. That action came during the August 3 meeting at the West Carroll Junior/Senior High School. more
McKENZIE (AUGUST 1) — New state laws affecting education necessitated numerous changes in local school board policy. During the August 1 meeting, the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved those changes, some of which included school safety, summer school, intruder drill policy, a public comment policy at meetings, and penalties for unruly spectators or coaches at sporting events. more
HUNTINGDON (August 2) — Four state inmates housed at the Carroll County Jail were recognized for completing a course of study to help them re-enter society. more
SPRINGVILLE, Tenn. (August 4) — The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) announced expanded days of operation for the Visitor Center, Monday – Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.. The visitor center is located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville, Tenn. more

McKENZIE (August 5) — On Saturday, football teams from sixteen different middle schools clashed at Randy Thomas Field for the annual McKenzie Jamboree. Three Carroll County teams competed, including McKenzie, Huntingdon, and West Carroll Middle Schools. Each team played two twenty-minute quarters on one half of the football field, allowing double match-ups to occur simultaneously. more
McKenzie’s Thursday night summer concert series Nights on Broadway continues August 3 with live music from the James Greer Band. Bring out your lawn chairs, check out the parked food vendors, dance a little, and shop in downtown McKenzie while enjoying local talent. Depending on the weather, the event might move into McKenzie’s Park Theatre. more

McKENZIE — This summer, McKenzie Valve & Machining established a goal to help the local community. The industry teamed with the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce to collect and distribute school supplies for schools across the county, with an initial plan to provide 20 backpacks full of supplies to six schools. By August, the industry received enough donations to exceed that goal and provide supplies to seven local school systems: McKenzie, Huntingdon, West Carroll, Bruceton, Clarksburg, Henry, Gleason and Dresden. more
JACKSON (July 29) — After a week of events and competitions, the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant culminated on Saturday, July 29, with the crowning of Miss Lane College Volunteer Jada Brown as the 2024 Miss Tennessee Volunteer. Several women represented Carroll County in the pageant and made their own impacts on the competition. more
