HUNTINGDON  The family of Evola Laws Thompson of Huntingdon announced her passing on February 27, 2024, at the age of 96 years. She was born in Huntingdon, Tennessee, on August 28, 1927, one of twelve children.  She married Robert Thompson on June 1, 1945, a union lasting 66 years until his death in 2011. In 1969, they moved to Florida  and were instrumental in starting Venice church of Christ.  Returning in 1983 to Huntingdon to live on her family’s homestead, she often remarked “Why would anyone want to be any place else but here”.  In 1985, Evola and Robert established the Camperoo, a tradition that has continued as an annual gathering of family and friends on the original site of everyone’s childhood memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Goethe and Sophia Laws; spouse, Robert Thompson; siblings, Doye Simmons; Homer Laws; Lusetta Laws; Irene Rodgers; Odell Laws; Dorothy Sanders; Waldon Laws; Wilburn Laws; John Laws; and Joseph Laws.

Survived by children, Gene and Rosa; Phyllis and David; Marsha and Rick; sister, Juanita, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

The family is grateful to the staff at Lakeside Senior Living Community, GoodWorks Unlimited and Gentiva Hospice for all of their love, care and support.

As a longtime active member of Clarksburg Church of Christ, Chase Sanders will officiate the funeral service at Chase Funeral Home in Huntingdon, Tn. on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Visitation will be at 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm. Burial will be at Sellers Hill Cemetery following the service.
