McKENZIE —   A memorial service for Millard Dwayne Vowell is Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 5 p.m. at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be at a later date at Tenn.  State Veteran Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.
Mr. Vowell, 74, died Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was an operation supervisor for Heilig – Meyers Furniture Store for 24 years, an LPN for several area nursing homes and an electrician. He was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a Green Beret for the US Army, a Purple Heart recipient and a 3-time Bronze Star recipient. He was born in Louisville, Miss. on December 9, 1947 to Millard and Beatrice Green Vowell.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Johnson of McKenzie, three daughters, Kristina (Troy) Buttery of Paris, Shaunda Page of Huntingdon and Denise ( Lamar) Creekmore of Mississippi, two sons, Michael (Barbara) Vowell of Paris and Blanton Vowell of Oregon, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twelve siblings and survived by one brother Travis Vowell.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
