FAIRFIELD, Ohio — Robert Leo Sommer, 88, of Fairfield died March 26, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield. He was born September 9, 1930 to Bernard and Freida Sommer of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Robert (Bob) was the youngest of seven siblings. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis, and a son, Robert, Jr. (Bobby). He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Tim) Sommer Broadbent, McKenzie, Tenn., Tina (Greg) Bruce of Hamilton, Ohio, Cindy Sommer of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Lindsey Hall, Craig (Alyssa) Broadbent, Curtis Broadbent, and Courtney Broadbent; great-granddaughter, Reyna Newcomb.
Robert was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War, member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and a life member of Amvets Post 71 of Fairfield, and life member of American Eagle Post 3680.
He was the business owner of Easy Lift Hanger Company, a truck driver, and diesel mechanic living in Fairfield.
A memorial mass is at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfield on April 8, 2019, 11 a.m. with celebration of life following at Fairfield Eagles 3680.
