HUNTINGDON  - Mrs. Willodean Coleman Carter, of Huntingdon, Tennessee died Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the age of 97.

The funeral service are 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Dilday-Carter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 65 Bethel Church Road in Huntingdon.

The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, 9 a.m.  until time of service.

Willodean was born on July 21, 1926, to the late Jamie and Mattie Coleman. She was a 1944 graduate of McLemoresville High School. She was employed by H.L. Carter & Son on the Court Square in Huntingdon for 28 years and then also worked for Dot Milam’s Dress Shop. In addition to this, she was a homemaker for her family, an extensive gardener, and supported her husband’s farm and work at Carter’s Welding.

She was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau, where she was a chairman of the Women’s Department and received the Distinguished Service Award at the Farm Bureau Convention in Nashville in 1999.

She was also a member of the Huntingdon American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She attended church and was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Huntingdon, where she served as secretary-treasurer and taught Sunday School.

Willodean is survived by her three children, Susan Lawrence, Jeffrey (Amy) Carter, and Jennifer (Bill) Rogers, all of Huntingdon. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Benjamin (Nichole) Lawrence, Jonathan (Jeannine) Lawrence, Isaac (Alicia) Carter, and Meredith Todd. Her great-grandchildren include Morgan (Corden) Hight, Jack Lawrence, Magnolia Lawrence, Owen Lawrence, Corrie Lawrence, Ethan Coad, and Maci Coad, and her great-great-grandchildren include Colden and Collyns Hight.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wright Carter, son-in-law Reggie Ray Lawrence, grandson Adam Coleman Carter, two sisters Elizabeth Kelly and Iris Traywick, and four brothers Horace Ray Coleman, Jerry Coleman, Billy Coleman, and Gordan Coleman.

Honoring her as active pallbearers will be Benjamin Lawrence, Jonathan Lawrence, Isaac Carter, Jimmy Kelly, Larry Kelly and Richard Kelly.

Honoring her as honorary pallbearers will be Jack Lawrence, Dennis Coleman, Mike Coleman, Danny Coleman, Sammy Coleman, Ricky Coleman and Lynn Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Adam Coleman Carter Memorial Fund or Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with name in the memo P.O. Box 1012 Huntingdon, Tennessee 38344.
