Stephen Brown, a lifelong McKenzie native and CSX engineer, had the recent honor of working the CSX Santa Train, which runs through parts of Kentucky, Virgina, and Tennessee along the Appalachian Trail. In its 81st year, the Santa Train carried approximately 13 tons of supplies to those along the 110-mile route, consisting of toys, food, wrapping paper, and stuffed backpacks. The train embarked on its 10-hour journey beginning in Pikeville, Kentucky and ending in Kingsport, Tenn. more
The City of McKenzie recently contracted Mike Mazza of Mazza’s Painting to repaint the city’s historic caboose, which is located downtown to the left of McKenzie’s Splash Pad. The caboose had never been repainted since its arrival to McKenzie. more

HUNTINGDON (January 25) — Carroll County Electric Board of Directors voted to proceed with designing and constructing a new substation in the Leach Community along Highway 70. The growth around Lake Halford and Indian Lake in the Cedar Grove area necessitates the new substation to divert the load from other substations. more

NASHVILLE (January 24) — On Wednesday, January 24, the Tennessee Historical Commission’s State Review Board met to decide on furthering Webb School’s nomination on to the National Register of Historic Places. The board unanimously approved moving the nomination forward to the National Park Service for final approval to the National Register. If placed on the registry, Webb School would then be eligible for National Park Service-administered federal preservation tax credits and grant programs. more

CARROLL COUNTY — Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreational Lake is now owned by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. That transfer of ownership occurred on July 1 with an intragovernment transfer of assets from the Carroll County Watershed Authority, a state agency to TWRA, another state agency. more
McLEMORESVILLE (July 4) — A long-standing tradition continued in McLemoresville on July 4 in downtown. The events started with a parade, starting at the McLemoresville Baptist Church and traveling a short distance to downtown. Temperatures were in the upper 90s, but that did not deter the spectators. more
McKENZIE (July 4) — On an extremely hot summer day, the greater McKenzie community celebrated July 4 with concessions, music and fireworks at McKenzie City Park. The annual tradition started in the 1980s and has become an annual must-attend event. more
