HUNTINGDON (August 6) — The stories of Governor Gordon Browning, Governor Alvin Hawkins, and aviator Lt. Jack Jenkins were portrayed by Robert “Gus” Radford, John Everett Williams, and Kent Jones on Saturday, August 6. HUNTINGDON (July 26) — After some animated discussion regarding Mayor Dale Kelley’s recommendation of Angela DeMaris to become executive director of the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center, the council voted 4-3 to approve her for the position. DeMaris was serving as Director of Operations but had also been unofficially doing the theater director’s duties as well after Lori Nolen resigned. The position was not filled immediately due to the COVID pandemic. more
McKENZIE (July 30) — The early bird gets the produce. McKenzie Farmers Market shoppers who arrived early bought their pick of cantaloupes, honeydew melons, squash, zucchini, onions, potatoes, cucumbers, peas, and green beans, and we had a tasty treat this week with the Milam’s heirloom tomatoes. They may look a little different, but the taste brings you back to the tomatoes many of us grew up with. more
HUNTINGDON — Sixty-Five fishing teams from throughout the United States and one team from Canada descended on the Carroll County area for the Bassmaster Junior National Championship held at Lake Halford (1,000 Acre Lake) on Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30. more
McKENZIE (July 29) — There is a new service agency in McKenzie. Cachengo Closet is located in a small portion of the former hospital building on Hospital Drive. Other parts of the building will be used as a campus for the development of advanced computer technology and other services of Cachengo. more
McKENZIE (July 22) —The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) held its first public block party Friday, July 22. On campus, students, visitors and their families enjoyed activities including bowling, ring toss, a photo booth, a cake walk, golf, campus tours and a bake sale. more

The summer concert series Nights on Broadway once again relocated to the McKenzie Park Theatre on July 21 due to excessive heat. more

Chick-fil-A celebrated its ten-year anniversary July 19 with a little help from Sweet Jordan’s and the Snack Shack food trucks parked outside of Bethel University’s Vera Low Center. The celebration was from noon until 5 p.m.  more
The Farmers Market Tomato Festival was a great success, bringing in over 340 customers. Lots of early shoppers purchased the bushels of beautiful ripe tomatoes, which did not last long. Customers sampled and bought great salsa and tasted and received recipes for savory tomato pie and a tomato salad. Our fun “tomato splat balls” were a big hit with our children visiting the market. more
